Thank you to everyone who supported me in the Last Mile Ride this past weekend. I was again the top fundraiser – and I was also the only scooterist, and the only person wearing pink!

pink scooter theft caught on tape in Denver

This story is making the scooter forum and blog rounds: A theft of a pink scooter in the Denver area was caught on surveillance tape, and the owners and police are looking for the people who did it. The photos are pretty clear, and the truck that the scooter is thrown into has distinctive features. If you are in the Denver area, and know or recognize the people or the truck in the survelliance tape, you are encouraged to call the owner or the Denver police. According to the news story, this scooter was the owner’s main form of transportation.

The scooter owner Janet has posted on the Denver Craigslist looking for information and warning buyers that this scooter is stolen. survivor rides 1,100 miles for breast cancer research

I first read about Barbara Landry and her Schwinn Hope in an article about her and her scooter ride in the Nashua Telegraph. I wrote to her and asked if I could post a photo here and tell you a bit about her ride.

Barbara is a breast cancer survivor who lost her friend and sister-in-law Dale Burnes Golinski to breast cancer last year. The loss inspired Barbara to plan a ride on her 50cc Schwinn Hope from New Hampshire to Georgia to raise money for breast cancer research in Dale’s honor. Her ride, which she calls Trails for Dale, starts today, and she plans to arrive in Georgia on August 9, the one year anniversary of Dale’s death.

As of the Telegraph article, Barbara had raised over $11,000 for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Her scooter is a Schwinn – her second. The first, a 50th birthday present from her husband had unfixable technical difficulties after about 1,100 miles. She then purchased a Schwinn Hope to replace her old scooter, and has transfered the special-edition Georges Duboeuf designed panels from the old scooter to the new one.

Bonegirl hits the 20,000 mile mark

This photo speaks for itself: 20,000 miles! Angie “Bonegirl” sent me the news that she and her Buddy, first featured on scoot|pink on June 9, hit the 20,000 mile mark on June 29. Here’s the Flickr photostream celebrating the event. Congratulations Angie! Of course, by the time I hit the ‘publish’ button, I’m sure you’ve already put on a few hundred more miles.

We’re looking forward to you meeting that 24,000 mile goal.

Hello Kitty Hell – did she ever get the pink scooter?

As you can imagine, when you start a site about pink scooters, even if it’s only a week old or so, people send all kinds of links and stories and photos that feature pink scooters.

Imagine if you started a site about Hello Kitty.

I was lucky enough to find the site Hello Kitty Hell – a blog by a self-proclaimed tortured husband whose wife started a business selling Hello Kitty figurines, toilet paper, and other paraphenalia. When she told him she wanted a scooter, it just happened to coincide with the appearance of a photograph of a Hello Kitty enhanced scooter sent to him by a reader. The post shows a few photos of the scooter, but it never reveals whether his wife actually got one like she said she wanted (maybe she got the motorcycle).
