You can not make this stuff up – although you may like to once you hear how much a Spiderman action figure on a pink scooter goes for at auction.

I found this photo on the Geek Orthodox blog, and its publisher Reis gave me permission to use his photo here. Reis tells me it was produced by Marx in 1967, and also gave me this link to an auction where one recently sold for over $1,300.

Reis, by the way, rides a scooter… but not a pink one.

I saw this great polymer clay sculpture on Flickr and just had to write the artist, Tamra, for permission to post it here (thanks Tamra!). I asked South African artist David Venter if I could feature his painting, “Pink Scooter in Worcester”, on scootpink. I saw it originally on his gallery on his site, Dawie Grafix.

He tells me:

“The painting is a whimsical collection of late 60’s images in South Africa, starting with the house with its tin roof, fence and enclosed veranda which is very typical of that era. The parked Ford Escort Mk 1 also dates from the same period and was a very popular vehicle. The focus of the picture however is the pink scooter which is a fantasy machine inspired by my love for the aerodynamic design elements of the early Vespas. To me, the 60’s symbolise a carefree period when motoring and biking was still limitless. Airbags, CO2 emissions, mpg, speed traps, safety cameras, ABS, seat belts, quad bikes and more were either not invented yet or were not considered important.”

Corey Allen, artist and owner of Moss Street Gallery in New Orleans, graciously gave me permission to post a copy of his beautiful painting, Blue & Pink Vespas on Magazine Street here on scoot|pink. Framed ($125) or unframed ($75) prints are available on his site on the prints page. Corey tells me he not only paints images of Vespas, he’s a proud owner/rider, too.

Quite simply, it’s an ornament of a pink flamingo riding a scooter while applying lipstick and wearing high heels. And a helmet. And a leather vest. It can be yours for the buy-it-now price of $16.94.

For about the price of a gallon of gas, this little pink cutie can be part of your collection. And it won’t take up much room, either – it measures just 2.5 inches long.

The seller, planetjuicy, kindly gave me permission to use this photograph from the auction. While planetjuicy’s prices are higher than what is posted on the Juicy Couture site, I was told that the price is based on a retail price, while the Juicy Couture site only supplies wholesalers. It was also pointed out that the Juicy Couture site is sold out/backordered. So the charm’s high demand warrants its $86.70 collectible price.

It seems that every shop online that lists it for sale is now out of stock, but there’s one seller on Amazon that has a single Betty Boop Scooter Figure left for just under $66. Luckily there are a bunch of sellers offering them at a wide range of prices on ebay, from the $40s to almost $80. There’s also another collectible Betty Boop on a scooter, but that one is 3 feet tall and the scooter is red. Its price is also generally well over $300.
